History:
Established in 1979, Albury Wodonga Private Hospital started out as one ward with 35 beds and two operating theatres. Over the years it has grown to become the region's largest and most comprehensive private hospital facility boasting 103 beds, five Operating Theatres, a Day Surgery Unit, Mental Health centre, Sleep Disorders unit as well as offering a wide range of diagnostic and support services.
It is now regarded as one of regional Australia's most progressive hospitals.

Mr John Appleyard
John Appleyard has been practising as a dental surgeon since 1981. Born in 1958, graduated from the internationally regarded Dental School of The University of Adelaide.
He is married with two young children.
During the latter part of his studies, he won a Defence Force Scholarship in 1979, awarded by selection for his academic and clinical excellence. He served as a Captain Dental Officer in the Army until the middle of 1984. During 1983 and 1986, Mr Appleyard undertook post-graduate hospital resident training in Oral Diagnosis, Oral & Plastic Surgery, Oral & Maxillofacial, Head & Neck Cancer Surgery, and Orthodontics in Scotland and England. This was associated with the Faculties of Dental Surgery, Royal Colleges of Surgeons, Edinburgh & England.
In 1992, Mr Appleyard travelled to Sweden to undertake advanced surgical and prosthodontic (crowns/bridges) training at the prestigious Branemark Institute for dental implants. Mr Appleyard is an Accredited Advanced Implant Surgeon/Practitioner.
Mr Appleyard maintains his knowledge through regular attendance at post-graduate courses. Advanced training in Sedation, and extended study in Orthodontics has been undertaken, as well as in Endodontics & Periodontics.
He is also a Member of the Australian Dental Association, British Dental Association, Federation Dentaire Internationale, and the Irish Dental Council. He receives and studies six post-graduate international dental journals per month to maintain currency with latest advances in the profession.
While Mr Appleyard is not a specialist, his extensive study and overseas experience have allowed him to successfully treat patients in almost all facets of dentistry.
Mr Appleyard is the Consultant Dental Surgeon to Tallangatta Health Service, and Senior Visiting Staff Dental Surgeon to Albury Base Hospital. In addition to full admitting & operating rights to the above two hospitals, Mr Appleyard has full admitting & theatre rights at Albury-Wodonga Private Hospital and Albury Day Surgery.
Mr Appleyard has recently been appointed to the American Association of Orthodontics, and also the American Association of Functional Orthodontics
Ms Eliza Tweddle
Eliza Tweddle is Ear Nose and Throat, Head and Neck surgeon who moved to the area in 2009. She has a special interest in Paediatrics, Laryngology and Voice disorders with large screen viewing available during consultations. In addition Rhinologic and Head and Neck work, such as parotid, thyroid and neck surgery continue to be an important part of her practice. She also has appointments at Albury Wodonga health is involved teaching of surgical registrars, residents, medical students and allied health fields such as speech pathology. She also is involved in Aide programs in Cambodia on an annual basis.
Mr Neil Bright
Neil has been in private practice in Albury/Wodonga since 1991.
He performs a wide range of general surgical procedures, including upper and lower G.I. endoscopy, laparoscopy and complex laparoscopic surgery, hernia repairs and emergency surgery, but has special interest interests in breast cancer and thyroid surgery. He has also undertaken research in diseases of the oesophagus and in oesophageal cancer.

Elie Khoury has been in practice as an Orthopaedic Surgeon in Albury Wodonga for nine years. Elie's special interest is arthroplasty, arthroscopy surgery and cruciate ligament reconstruction. Elie takes referrals from both private and public patients and aims to ensure that all patients in the area have access to orthopaedic services. As Head of Unit at Albury Base Hospital, Elie is responsible for the Orthopaedic registrar and the Orthopaedic training programme
Dr Jeremy Kolt
Jeremy Kolt has been in practice as an Orthopaedic Surgeon in Albury Wodonga since 2008. His special interest is trauma and sports injuries, including adult and paediatric reconstructive surgery and joint replacement. Jeremy takes referrals for private, workcover and public elective and emergency patients. He aims to provide the community a comprehensive and broad orthopaedic service. As an associate of Albury OPSU, Jeremy can facilitate Orthopaedic and Plastic Surgical services to patients with significant major traumatic injuries.
Jeremy's professional interest is the application of modern orthopaedic technologies into everyday practice, to optimize outcomes and return patients to the highest level of function, as quickly as possible. With trauma surgery, this relates to choosing the most appropriate management to allow early movement and weight-bearing. For elective surgery, Jeremy co-ordinates a multidisciplinary team approach for optimal management of post-operative pain, preventing complications and facilitating rehabilitation. He uses modern techniques for orthopaedic procedures, including arthroscopy and minimally-invasive surgery for knee, shoulder and hip conditions.
Jeremy has undertaken research into blood salvage technologies in Orthopaedic Surgery and presented and published work both nationally and internationally. In 2006, he was awarded the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons' Noel Newton Medal for best research paper in New South Wales. Jeremy uses autologous drainage reinfusion techniques to help minimize blood loss for joint replacement patients.
Jeremy runs a dedicated weekly clinic for patients with acute sports-related injuries, to facilitate early diagnosis and rehabilitation.
Mr Gregory McCarten

Greg has been practising as a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon for 20 years. With visiting rights at Albury Base and Albury Wodonga Private Hospital, he accepts referrals for public and private patients and has a special interest in hand and upper limb surgery. Base Hospital duties include Plastic Surgery teaching for General Surgical Registrars, and Hand Surgery Teaching for Orthopaedic Registrars.
