MHistory:
For many years, Caloundra Private Hospital was known as Andrea Ahern Private Hospital – named after former Queensland Premier Mike Ahern’s wife.
Built in 1984 by the Moran Health Group, the Hospital comprised 40 acute medical and surgical beds and one operating theatre.
Later purchased by MBF Australia in 1986, the Hospital underwent major extensions and renovations and a master plan was drafted for future possible development.
In 1992 a two-stage redevelopment of the operating theatre was completed, wards were totally refurbished and the hospital grounds re-landscaped. Two years later, the Hospital’s Day Surgery Unit opened.
In 1996, an additional 24 beds were added – bringing the total to 64 beds evenly split between medical and surgical wards. A Renal Dialysis Unit opened in September 2003.
The Hospital has been through several changes in ownership over the years – becoming part of the Ramsay Health Care network in 2005. Ramsay Health Care owns and operates around 70 private hospitals across Australia – making it the country’s largest and most respected provider of private hospital services plus an international presence in countries such as the United Kingdom and Indonesia.
Today, Caloundra Private Hospital is delivering on its solid healthcare foundations and evolving in response to the changing needs of the community it serves.
